I play the bass, kind of, and some other stuff, but no strings. Mom was real disappointed.

Wait, you play the bass, but no strings...? Isn't the bass a stringed instrument?

Er, yeah, but I mean I play six-strings, not a stringed bass. I don't know about using a bow. No playing with the orchestra anymore.

An electric bass guitar with six strings instead of four. It just seemed interesting, so I started teaching myself. Can't play the same role in a jazz group, though.

I think we're gonna do something metal-y. We'll see what we come up with in rehearsal. I'm pretty optimistic, though!

When you said "something like metal..." what is that?

We're thinking like '80s throwback heavy metal rock & roll, all guitars and pleather pants and guyliner and stuff. I usually do more jam band-type stuff, so this should be fun.
