Day 3, overnight

[Just before the time votes generally get announced, the smoke alarm in the basement starts giving an ear-splitting buzz. Hope you weren't trying to get some quiet time in your dressing room, since for a good five, ten minutes, it is not very quiet.

[Then, thankfully, the alarm shuts off abruptly. A moment later, Little Debbie herself comes shrieking over the monitors. She looks furious.]

What in the world do you devil squares think you're doing!? You had to do this today? Really? First, the cold fishest of dates, then the world's most boringest voting, and now you're messing up our stuff? Don't you know what all we're dealing with here!?

Seriously, if it wasn't such an important day, you guys'd be in sooo much trouble! So give your praises for my my sweet fucking demeanor-slash-absolute lack of time right now for dealing with this dollar bin garbage, and start getting your keisters in gear! Romance is a legitimate genre, just look at the book sales! And I want a piece of that Fabio pie! So you nutty buddies are gonna get out there, you're gonna date, there's gonna be some sparks, and we're gonna get top trending numbers tomorrow, or else!

[The girl stomps her foot, near tantrum; Swiss Miss takes over.]

Whatever you think you've done, it did not work. No more mini-marshmallows until you improve. Marshmallows are for closers.

PS, Kimi and Elise are dead.

[He blinks, surprised. Even though she'd been watching all that time, Yusuke hadn't noticed she was there.]

Ah, thank you. It's based on something I saw today, and so I sought to depict it while my memory is still fresh.

Do you paint stuff like that a lot? Just pretty things that you see?

Yes, of course. As an aspiring artist, I am always searching for new sources of inspiration. That includes the beauty of nature.

Right. Sorry, I really... don't know anythin' at all about art.

[slightly embarrassed. she doesn't like sounding ignorant, but there's no way around this one.]

[He shakes his head.]

There's nothing to apologise for. You don't need to have knowledge of the artistic process in order to enjoy art itself.

Haven't done much of that before either. [shrugs a little]

It's kinda interesting to watch you, though.

Well, I don't mind explaining things, if you have any questions while I work.

[It sure beats talking about murder and dating all the time, anyway.]

...If it's not gonna distract you or anythin', I wouldn't mind for a little bit.

Most of the intricate work that requires great concentration is finished, so by all means, feel free.

[He turns back to his painting, picking up his brush to continue where he left off.]

Alright. What are you doin' now and why doesn't it take as much concentration?

Previously, I was finishing the ice of the waterfall, which, aside from the night sky, is the most intricate part of the work. Do you see how the waterfall isn't simply a single sheet of water as it would be in its unfrozen state, but made up of individual icicles of different lengths, all fused together? Recalling such completed shapes and textures from memory took all my attention, so that I could make them convincing. Not only that, but painting them bathed in moonlight rather than sunlight added an extra layer of challenge.

Now, however, I have completed that part of the work, and I am painting in the trees and snow. I've already outlined the basic shapes of each tree, and because it is nighttime, it's simply a matter of painting in their silhouettes without any great detail.

Does that make sense? [He tends to ramble, but he hopes he didn't make his explanation too complicated.]
