No, this isn't my worst experience but yes I want to get out of here as soon as I can without being gutted.

I don't have a whole lot of people I care about at home but I'm more concerned about my artwork.

What kind of artwork?

I'm a mangaka. I have one of the biggest and most successful serials out in Japan right now. It's my livelihood. My work is the most important thing to me. My fans and the people who enjoy it keep it alive.

[keybroad]

[Her pupils dilate slightly. She picks up pretty quickly that he must be pretty serious. This is the longest not derisive speech she's ever heard him give (though that doesn't say so much considering they've coexisted for less than half an hour).]

That's pretty neat. [It's a mild neat, not an "oh gee whiz" neat.] I don't even remember to read manga every week, I can't imagine sitting down and writing/drawing it.

[ He fiddles idly with moving his tablet under his arm. ]

I get my chapters done pretty quickly. After I submit them and get them approved, I travel to Europe or wherever I feel I should go to draw there. Sometimes I stay home. It all depends on how I'm feeling.

I don't have family that I speak to anymore. Your hobby becomes that when you are at it long enough. There isn't anything in the world that I love more than my work.

[keybroad]

[Her eyebrows furrow a little because she can remember thinking in her youth "the only friend I need is my computer!" and then growing up to realize that life is more complicated, more interdependent, than that. Well, she's not his therapist. Maybe he can borrow her therapist if she wins. For now, she won't antagonize him. So, pleasantly.]

Europe must be nice, especially if you only even go there specifically when you feel like it. That explains how you're pretty sure of yourself in a place like this that's technically overseas.

It is. I like visiting Italy the best. Spain is nice but I'm very fond of the works of art in France and Italy the most. I was looking to visit Sardinia again, not vacationing sponsored by corporately owned fast food companies.

[ A beat. ]

May I ask what you were going to do with your extra vote, Lotus? I'm handing one to Nijimura and I don't have anyone to swap one with.

[keybroad]

Oh my god, you're not going to be all tough about this? As it turns out~ I'd already cast a vote for you as a placeholder. Don't get ideas about being the only one I see this way, I wanna cast my second vote for someone who helped me fill squares, too. I'm hoping that Jumpei and Santa will cover everyone we know between them. I don't really want to go with a one-week-only one-for-one trade.

Really?

[ He shakes his head. ]

I know not to get presumptuous but I was planning on placing one for you in all fairness. You helped me with a lot of my squares and as it turns out you don't seem as insufferable as... Most of our friends here.

I will thank you nonetheless.

[keybroad]

[In a small voice, she manages to reply:] Thank... you...

[She charges ahead again, louder, with a stilted inflection that sounds sarcastic, but given her flushed face it's more likely an actively constructed mask for sincerity.]

Wow! Rohan! You really know how to praise a lady. Is this how you write dialogue in your manga?

[manuscripture]

[ Furrowing his brow, he squints. Really, he's making an active attempt at being polite. ]

Yeah. Sure. That's how I learned to write it. [ It sounds like flippant sarcasm. He'd even wave it off if he didn't want to offend her. ] You helped me, I'll help you and I hope that the next challenge gives us a chance to work together again.

I already told you that I don't get out much but I think that I'm a good judge of character.

[keybroad]

I won't argue with that.

You won't argue with that because it's a compliment or because I am not bullshitting you?

[keybroad]

Because I'm not a perfect judge of character myself is why. Glass houses.

That's fair too. I can't be too critical when it comes to first impressions here. Doing this by myself would be impossible. I suppose I need to stop being too frumpy about it.
