[he indicates his left one, and then starts shrugging out of of his jacket to bare his arms—his right arm is in fact completely shiny chrome, and the blue shapes from his chest apparently extend partway down his bicep]

[Something geometrical seems appropriate, between the robotic arm and what she can make out of his pre-existing tattoos... So she uses a marker to draw something out first. She might not be artistic, but at least being mathematically inclined helps?]

Oooh man. It's a good thing I've had worse pain than this. Like. Way worse. I hear drinking before getting tattooed is bad, but maybe I'll do some of that after this.

Uh, you're not doing too bad though. Keep it up.

Right? They seem to want us to drink, but it's only going to make it worse. During, that is, so hey, you can get smashed after if you feel like it.

Have they come up with an easier way in your time - that is, I can only assume you're a little ahead. [Like, robot arm and all.] Mine was done in a super old-fashioned way, so I'm hoping this method won't be so bad in comparison.

I'm definitely ahead, yeah. Uh, in my time you can definitely just digistruct a skin if you want a different look for a bit, but that's more temporary. It's not quite the real thing. The idea for the real thing is still basically the same, though you can get it automated if you want to. Like, robots tattooing you. You get an extra steady hand that way.

Good for the pain, but that sounds like it would sort of take the artistry out of it.

Yeah, and it's also the cheap way to go. These were done the human way, myself.

Do you mind if I ask, is it entirely abstract, or did you have some intent behind it apart from aesthetic?

This one's mostly aesthetic, going with the cyborg thing. The blue one is a style that was really popular for a while, sort of Siren-tattoo-like.
