[June had flopped down next to the wall by the sci fi set and was despondently poking at her tablet, which worked just fine now. Maybe she'd moved too late, which was why the tablet had frozen and not let her submit the bingo card she'd worked so hard on.

At least this was only the first day. There would be plenty of time going forward - and now she knew how the game worked, better than she had.]

[jinglebros]

You okay there, sis?

[ Santa flops down next to her and elbows her lightly in the side like a good, caring brother. ]

Wanna talk about it?

[exequte]

I'm just frustrated.

[She curls up with her arms around her legs and plops her chin down on her knees. If she was standing, she'd probably kick the floor.]

It doesn't look like I'm going to be much use here, does it?

[jinglebros]

Sure you are. It's not always going to be technology fucking up on you.

[ He extends that arm he elbowed her with around her back, patting her shoulder. ]

But hey, let's go with the idea you never get any votes. You can still make yourself useful.

[exequte]

[She turns and gives him a somewhat skeptical look.]

I don't know anything, this time. At least we know a little more about how the game is played, I guess, but that's only what we've learned so far.

[jinglebros]

Nobody else knows anything either. Except those three, I guess, but Dee's fucking useless.

[exequte]

You know what I mean.

[She turns and puts her chin back on her knees again.]

Yeah, I do.

[ He sighs, because he's really not sure what to say to make it better. Big brother mode: failing. ]

But you're good for moral support, you know.

I don't have a fever, at least.

[These times are generally few and far between - she might not often run a high temperature, at least not if they're careful, but quite frequently she does run a little warmer than she should. It fluctuates.]

I think that's because it doesn't matter anymore.

[jinglebros]

[ He raises the hand that's not on her shoulder to her forehead, just to make sure she's not kidding; once he feels that she's cool, he drops it, nodding in satisfaction. Then he looks at his shoes. ]

I can't say whether or not it does.

[exequte]

Why not? After all, no matter what happens here, it's done at home.

[One way or another. Even if she doesn't win, it's still done.]

[jinglebros]

We don't know what everyone's prizes will be.

[exequte]

Even if something changed at home because of someone winning, it still wouldn't matter any more, would it? So, either way.

Why wouldn't it matter?

[ He picks at the straps on his boots. ]

If nothing changes, I'll already be dead, and if it does, hopefully none of this would have happened at all.

[jinglebros]

Do I want to ask which you'd rather?

[exequte]

You really think I'd rather be dead?

[She looks away again, mouth a tight little line.]

[jinglebros]

...at this point, I'm just scared.

[ He pulls his arm back and curls up a little too. ]

[exequte]

I'm sorry.

[Her voice is very soft]

This is all my fault.

[jinglebros]

[ He glances at her. ]

Why?

[bookmarking]

[Clover sighs. She feels June's pain right now.]

Don't worry. There's no way your brother and/or Junpei won't vote for you.

[exequte]

I'm not worried about that. I'm sure that someone will help me, especially this first round, when there's so many votes. I'm going to have to do better going forward, though, if I want to stay here.

[bookmarking]

[She reaches out to pat June's shoulder.]

Me too. Let's both do better...and I bet I'll do better than you. [Clover winks, trying to inject a little challenge.]

[exequte]

[She laughs at that, just a little.]

We won't know until we both try, will we?
