[ Around lunchtime, the tablets and screens located all around the studio turn on, in the way that they always do when the mascots have something to announce. Unusually, however, there is no music, no fanfare; the camera is out of focus, and Ronald doesn’t even seem to be looking at it. Instead, he's turned to King, ]

—supposed to be 40! What the McFuck are you doing? Can you even count?

[ The King stares. ]

You gave out 41! The Colonel would never screw up like that!

[ The King stares. ]

And what's this, "Quarter Pounder or Whopper" garbage? Those aren't equivalent burgers, you fake-grill-line-adding piece of shit! I'd better not see this referencing this in your next ad campaign!

[ The King offers a Whopper. Ronald McDonald smacks it out of his hand. He starts to yell again, but cuts himself off, turning his head toward the camera. ]

—Are we rolling!? Grimace, kill the feed!

[ The screens switch off. ]

I mean, I could say the same and tell some wild stories, but it still doesn't hold a candle.

[All she does for a moment is raise an eyebrow, thinking about what she could say. It's all pretty private, really, things she wouldn't want the other Ushiromiyas to hear, that she doesn't tell anyone in her daily life because it's over now and she doesn't want to carry it with her.]

They're mostly pretty old. And it's - well, can I tell you a bit of a secret, then? I can't believe I'm even going to say it, but you're easy to talk to, and I feel like you won't think too poorly of me.

I'm good at secrets. You wouldn't believe how many I've kept. I'd tell you, but I'm good at keeping them.

[ He's so earnest that it must be charming, right? ]

[He absolutely is, she laughs and gives him a grin, but takes a look around to check they're alone before replying.]

That is impressive.

I mentioned being disowned, well I can't exactly go back and smack anyone because I'm lucky they let me live already. My family's...they would call themselves "an honourable group", and I was my mother's heir. Preparing for that was my entire life and the reason I was born to begin with.

[So like, yeah, she has some stories for sure.]

Honourable group, huh? That mean what I think it means? [ He's thinking mafia or something like that and he has no idea if he's right. It'd certainly fit with 'lucky they let me live'. ] I guess smacking 'em would be more dangerous than I figured Why'd the sons of bitches disown you, anyway? You dare to speak out of turn?

Yeah, a yakuza syndicate. They weren't too happy with my attitude for a while, really, but they put so much effort into me already it would be more of a pain to start all over, you know? The unforgivable point was getting pregnant, apparently. Probably my fiance wouldn't have taken me like that and caused too many political problems.

[jinglebros]

So why'd they let you go without killing you? [ Santa's sure glad they did, but he doesn't quite understand it. Then again, how the hell would he understand how the yakuza works at all? He feels privileged, all of a sudden. It's a really fucking weird feeling. ]

They blackmailed Rudolf, my husband, into paying when they found out he was the father. That's the only thing people like that care about. Even being disgraced can be fixed with money.

[jinglebros]

[ Santa bares his teeth. ] Fucking pissants.

[meatitfeedson]

It was hell at the time, and I'm sorry Rudolf had to be thrown in the middle, but really it's the best thing that could have happened to me. At least I had a way out, though I wish he would have let me pay him back, that part feels...strange, to say the least.

Now I feel bad for joking about a threesome. I'll have to respect him more in the future if he saved you like this.

[ Ew, respecting an older male. Santa makes a gross face without noticing. ]

[She laughs and gives him a gentle elbow to the side.]

No, he'd probably find that pretty respectful. The highest form of it even.

[ He makes a surprised squeak at the elbowing and then laughs awkwardly ]

Honestly, I can see you two getting along well. We're practically the same after all, he's just...a flirt.

[She was trying not to think about it too much but, damn does she miss him.

That said there's no need to respect him even as an adopted father, we're that sort of household.

[ Santa wonder what are the odds of them both living and being able to see each other after this. It's a bit of a depressing thought, so he pushes it away. He's good at pushing depressing thoughts away. ]

I envy you. [ he admits. Okay, maybe one depressing thought will replace another, great. ]

...Really?

[That's...not something she thought anyone would say to her. It's meant to be the other way around. Although certainly things are supposed to look hunky dory to everyone looking in.]

Why's that?

I've never had a relationship, let alone someone to miss. June's all I have and probably all I'll ever have. I'm probably supposed to be okay with that since I raised her, but sometimes it sucks, you know?

[meatitfeedson]

I can understand that, I was never with anyone before Rudolf either, and I'd been resigned to that until then. But just because you love her and want to protect her doesn't mean you can't have both, right? Not that I recommend how painful missing the one you love is. I for one never wanted to be the sort of person who's so dependant on having another around.

[jinglebros]

The way I see it it's not bad. It's being a pair with someone and choosing to share your life. [ Santa is being serious now, which is a very rare look for him, or at least it has been during the last two days here. ] You're trusting someone to help you and they're trusting you. It sounds really nice.

[ He really, really envies someone being able to open up that completely. He wonders if he ever could. ]
