Why wouldn't I be, after the things you two have said? Besides, mothers always worry even if there's no need. I'm worrying about Ange right this minute. And now you're on the list too.

I guess I just don't understand why I'm worthy of this.

[ He looks uncomfortable. ]

You've done a good job of endearing yourself to me. I mean I don't understand why you think so highly of me either, but here we are. You matter to me, I can't exactly explain it when it's happened so quickly, but I suppose it's that I see myself in you? That still sounds too shallow though, it's more than that.

[jinglebros]

[ He nods, and then on a whim gives her another hug. ]

Just believe me that you're plenty worthy of it, and more. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks so.

[She takes that hug and even ruffles his hair.]

I can do that. I was a bartender for about a year.

[ He cracks his knuckles. ]

I have a pretty good tolerance, but no, I'd rather remain relatively in control at a time like this.

[ He mixes up a lemon-lime drink that's light on the heavy alcohol. ]

[She gives a thumbs up after a taste.]

Not half bad! Do you have any other hidden talents I should know about?

[ He makes a whining noise but finally gets the water and drinks it. ]

I'm really good at building electronic shit.

[meatitfeedson]

[Now also stop getting people to punch you. If only she knew about it.]

Did you go to school for that, or do you just happen to have a knack for it? Either way, that's pretty impressive.

[ He's probably going to be wobbly if she sends him far, so maybe she'll guess. ]

All the cool kids stop going to school when they're eight.

You dropped out that early? What about June?

Well, I didn't go to school to begin with, besides university, so you're in good company.

She went to homeschooling when she was twelve. And of course I dropped, someone had to get us food and a home.

[meatitfeedson]

...It really pisses me off you had to do that.

I didn't have to. I chose to for her.

[ He doesn't regret it. ]

Well yes, but you should have been able to rely on an adult for food and shelter. That's what bothers me, that there wasn't anyone. If something happened to us, I would expect at the very least for my father to look after Ange, not pushing her out on her own.

I don't know where the hell the rest of our family was. I just know they weren't around. We were probably black sheep, considering.

[ Please don't ask why 'considering', he thinks. ]

I can relate to that.

[She assumes it's something to do with his parents' deaths, but as much as she's curious, maybe she'll save it for a truth question, or another time entirely. He could probably use more light-hearted topics.]
